Structural Investigation Engineer

RPS Group is actively looking for a Structural Investigation Engineer to enhance our Structures division.

About Our Design Division:

The RPS Design Division undertakes projects across various specialized sectors, including residential developments, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing, data centers, and energy. We aim to achieve an optimal balance between aesthetics and functionality while addressing competing priorities such as sustainability, material selection, cost, and constructability. Digitalization is central to our operational model, enabling clients and stakeholders to engage with our designs from the initial concept phase. Our extensive expertise across multiple industries and disciplines allows us to assist clients in harmonizing design objectives through innovative engineering, architecture, and development services.

Key Responsibilities:

This role presents an exciting opportunity for a professional eager to advance their career as a Structural Engineer within our esteemed team, recognized for its extensive knowledge across all areas of the built environment. The position offers a diverse and stimulating role in a rewarding setting, focusing on the successful execution of residential foundation and superstructure projects, as well as low to medium-rise housing and commercial developments. You will contribute to the expansion of our structural investigation services, catering to clients across various regions.

Primary Duties Include:
  • Conducting structural investigations and preparing reports on a variety of building structures, ranging from residential to commercial, utilizing diverse materials and structural forms.
  • Supporting the Operations Director/Director in the development of structural investigation services.
  • Assisting the Associate Director/Director in managing the structural engineering team.
  • Independently overseeing projects and project teams.
  • Maintaining financial accountability for assigned projects.
  • Preparing fee proposals and managing invoicing.
  • Coordinating with staff and external consultants.
  • Collaborating with senior stakeholders and clients.
  • Conducting site visits and performing structural surveys, investigations, and repair assessments for various structural issues.
Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess a degree (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering and be chartered with ICE, IStructE, or a similar body, or be on the path to chartership.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Experience in structural investigations and reporting for low to medium-rise residential buildings, with a preference for experience in tall structures across various materials and forms.
  • Proficiency in identifying, reporting, and rectifying building defects.
  • Familiarity with structural safety investigations and the 'Building Safety Act'.
  • Experience in designing foundations, masonry, concrete, and detailing for steel and timber structures according to Eurocodes.
  • Knowledge of the residential market, including traditional and framed construction methods.
  • Familiarity with Tekla software (Tekla Designer and Tedds) and AutoCAD/Revit is advantageous.
  • Previous management experience is a plus.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach and a desire to drive innovation.
