Job Summary:
Thomas Thor Associates is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead our team in the development of mechanical and structural components for our SMR-300 plant. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing a team of mechanical design engineers, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and fostering a collaborative environment conducive to innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead mechanical design activities, including CAD design, design for manufacturability, engineering analyses, and technical documentation.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external organizations, including nuclear regulators.
- Lead required design change management activity and work on design solutions through critical thinking, research, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and suppliers.
- Oversee the creation of technical documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Support the preparation of design deliverables and presentations, and effectively communicate design progress in stakeholder meetings.
- Facilitate the development of engineering and safety case requirements and documentation for nuclear systems and components.
- Actively engage in project-driven engineering teams, providing leadership and expertise in mechanical design.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
- Proven experience in mechanical engineering design, including requirements capture, design solution generation, and technical report writing.
- Experience in design change management, configuration control, and requirements management.
- Strong presentation and communication skills - able to present at multiple organisational levels and to external regulatory stakeholders.
- Previous experience in the design and fabrication of products such as heat exchangers, piping valves, pumps, and ASME components in commercial nuclear or naval nuclear design would be an advantage.
