Job Summary: We are seeking an Advanced Pharmacy Technician to join our rotational team. The successful candidate will work across various clinical areas including the dispensary, medicines management services (MMS), and the aseptic unit. This role is crucial in ensuring the safe, effective, and timely delivery of pharmaceutical services to our patients.

Main Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical pharmacy services to a variety of medical/surgical specialties. This will include assessing patients' own medications, undertaking construction of accurate drug histories, supplying required medications to assigned wards, preparing medications or discharge including counselling of patients.

Key Responsibilities: Duties will include:

  • Interpreting, labelling, assembling, and issuing prescriptions accurately and promptly for inpatients, outpatients, and discharges.
  • Providing final accuracy checks on dispensed medications.
  • Counselling patients on their medications to enhance compliance and understanding.
  • Supervising and training pharmacy assistants, technicians, and trainee pharmacists.
  • Conducting comprehensive medication histories for patients on admission.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate supply of medicines to patients during their stay and upon discharge.
  • Counselling patients and carers on medication usage prior to discharge.
  • Regularly reviewing and managing ward stock to ensure adequate and appropriate supplies.
  • Preparing and checking aseptically prepared products, including cytotoxics and monoclonal antibodies, after completing in-house training.
  • Ensuring compliance with national, regional, and departmental SOPs.
  • Supervising pharmacy assistants and trainee staff within the aseptic unit.

Working Relationships: The successful candidate will work closely with pharmacy staff, nursing staff, medical staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective service delivery.

Essential Requirements: The successful candidate will need to have:

  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a pharmacy technician.
  • Experience in dispensing, ward-based services, and aseptic preparation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage workload and workflow effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills: The successful candidate will also have:

  • Previous experience in supervising and training junior staff.
  • Knowledge of the Trust's electronic systems (e.g. Emis, Oasis, Bluespier).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
