This role is anticipated to be a long-term contract engagement, adhering to IR35 regulations.
Overview:
The Joint Design Office (JDO) has been established to enhance site-based engineering capabilities, ensuring prompt responses to engineering inquiries and challenges arising from construction activities. This structure aims to streamline construction processes by providing immediate solutions and answers to facilitate ongoing work.
The Structural Engineer will operate within the Review & Acceptance division of the JDO, specifically concerning the Embedded Steelwork (Pools, Tanks, Liners, Sumps) projects.
The role will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Main Civil Contractor, construction teams, technical specialists, quality assurance teams, project management, and design teams, whether embedded on-site or in the back office.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will transition into the Mechanical and Electrical teams during the fit-out phase, following the completion of civil engineering tasks.
Key Responsibilities – Secondary Steelwork/Mechanical Scope:

  • Reporting directly to the PTLS Discipline Lead.
  • Assisting in the review and acceptance of engineering inquiries submitted by the Main Civil Contractor regarding the Embedded Steelwork (Pools, Tanks, and Liners) projects.
  • Addressing general inquiries, non-conformances, change requests, and exemption requests from contractors during both the manufacturing and installation phases, with support from the Responsible Designer or site experts as necessary.
  • Conducting oversight of manufacturing documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with Nuclear Safety standards.
  • Contributing to the resolution and closure of outstanding issues.
  • Evaluating technical risks and implementing strategies to mitigate them.

Qualifications:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience applying multidisciplinary technical expertise within the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing, construction, and installation sectors.
  • Experience in welding engineering.
  • Proven ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly in a site-based environment.
  • Capacity to work autonomously, proactively report on, and escalate pertinent issues.
