About the Role

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Clinical Support Worker to join our team in the Microbiology Laboratory at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and prepare materials and clinical specimens for analysis, ensuring safe disposal of clinical waste.
  • Register patient-related information onto the Laboratory Information System or other manual systems.
  • Provide assistance to Biomedical Scientists in the provision of the laboratory service and perform specific laboratory tests as required.
  • Work within Specimen Reception and handle telephone queries from staff and external agencies.
Requirements
  • 3 Highers at Grade C or above, including Chemistry or Biology, or equivalent qualification.
  • SVQ3 in a relevant science subject or completion of a modern apprenticeship in life sciences.
  • Completion of mandatory inductions standards for healthcare support workers in Scotland and adherence to the code of conduct.
Working Environment

The Diagnostic Clinical Microbiology Service is delivered from two sites: Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The laboratories provide a comprehensive Microbiology service to the population of Greater Glasgow & Clyde, including hospital-based users and Primary Care.
