Required Qualifications:

  • Background in allied health or a comparable qualification in health or behavioral sciences recognized by a relevant professional organization.
  • Registered Occupational Therapist with the appropriate regulatory body.
  • Accredited Cognitive Behavioral Therapist with registration from the relevant professional association.
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse.
  • Clinical Psychologist with registration in behavioral science.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in occupational health, employability, or disability management.

Key Responsibilities

As a Wellness Consultant, your primary focus will be to create and implement a comprehensive health and employment strategy aimed at assisting individuals who have been unemployed and are receiving government benefits. You will collaborate with employment specialists to alleviate participants' concerns regarding re-entering the workforce in a post-pandemic environment by conducting informative sessions and guiding employment advisors in connecting participants with mental health and wellness resources as necessary. This will primarily be conducted through digital platforms such as phone and video conferencing.

The role requires close collaboration with Employment Coaches, adopting a holistic approach to assist participants in achieving employment through improved management of their physical and mental health needs.

Additionally, you will play a crucial role in rebuilding participants' confidence and self-efficacy after a period of unemployment by implementing various health-focused programs, including anxiety management, stress reduction, pain management, and self-management strategies to facilitate their return to work and sustain employment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide wellness guidance to Employment Coaches to enhance their ability to support participants on their path to sustainable employment.
  • Collaborate with employment advisors to conduct health-related assessments to identify barriers to employment and offer strategies to overcome these challenges.
  • Work alongside management to identify employment advisors requiring additional health and wellness support for their participants.
  • Assist management in promoting staff wellbeing and sourcing additional resources to bolster team resilience.
  • Develop training programs to enhance employment advisors' understanding of participants' mental and physical health conditions, supporting their ongoing professional development.
  • Promote and ensure the safeguarding of participants, providing guidance to employment advisors on escalation procedures.
  • Support the emotional wellbeing of employment advisors through debriefing sessions following critical incidents.
  • Offer strategies for maintaining participant wellbeing during their transition back to work and provide ongoing support to ensure job retention.
  • Engage in collaborative discussions with employment advisors and participants or employers to provide direct advice and support.
  • Organize and facilitate a range of core and specialized interventions to support participants' journeys using a bio-psycho-social framework.
  • Establish programs to deliver effective health and wellness support, working as an integrated member of local teams and coordinating with other organizations.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local health and wellness services to ensure timely access for participants.
  • Generate accurate and timely reports on activities and performance as required.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities as identified through regular reviews with management.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in implementing behavior change strategies for lifestyle-related issues (e.g., smoking cessation, physical activity promotion, weight management).
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting individuals with health conditions in their return to work.
  • Relevant clinical experience in health and wellness.
  • Understanding of cognitive behavioral techniques and their application in practice.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Practical experience in accessing external support services and strong networking abilities.
