Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a proactive, creative, and highly driven professional to become part of the Quality Assurance and Safety Team as a Lead Officer for Patient Safety and Quality Assurance. This role is pivotal in assisting the Health Board with incident oversight and assurance initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Assistant Manager of Patient Safety and Assurance to provide support through a partnership model for specific clinical services in incident oversight and quality assurance activities. The primary responsibilities will encompass:

  • Daily management of incidents reported within the Health Board.
  • Identification of incidents that necessitate further examination or escalation.
  • Efficiently managing a portfolio of investigations to facilitate learning.
  • Offering guidance and support to colleagues on relevant matters.
  • Supervising a small team of Patient Safety Officers.
  • Conducting Investigation Training for Health Board personnel.

The ideal candidate will possess experience with Datix systems, and familiarity with the Putting Things Right framework would be advantageous.

Experience in NHS quality and safety initiatives, along with a comprehensive understanding of areas such as concerns reporting and investigation management, is preferred.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is responsible for planning and delivering NHS healthcare services for the populations of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and surrounding areas. Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to diploma/degree level or possess equivalent experience.
  • Clinical background or healthcare management qualification or equivalent experience at a postgraduate diploma level.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Understanding of NHS Putting Things Right Guidance, Duty of Quality, and Duty of Candour.
  • Familiarity with Health Board Risk Management Procedures and Legal frameworks.
  • Good grasp of medical terminology and concepts.
  • Knowledge of change management principles.
  • Familiarity with patient information systems.
  • Working knowledge of the DATIX risk management system.

Desirable

  • ECDL qualification.
