About the Role

The Early Years Special Educational Needs (SEND) Support Officer will provide expert guidance to practitioners supporting children with complex needs across Kingston and Richmond. This role requires a collaborative and respectful approach, working with a range of professionals, including schools, PVIs, health, social care, and education, as well as parents and carers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Offer practical guidance to practitioners on implementing professionals' recommendations, breaking them down into small steps or SMART targets.
  • Demonstrate interaction and intervention strategies, monitoring their effectiveness in helping children learn and develop.
  • Develop and deliver training and networks for SENCOs, showcasing small group activities and resource utilization.
  • Support settings with statutory assessment paperwork, attend multi-agency meetings, and participate in panels or support SEND planning meetings as directed by the Senior Adviser Early Years SEND.
  • Contribute to EHC Needs Assessment panels and attend panels/scrutiny for EY and KS1.
  • Complete specialist assessment paperwork for specialist panels and contribute to pathway planning.
  • Develop and deliver SEN training and networks, as required.
About You

You will have a strong capacity for working collaboratively with professionals and parents/carers, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will also possess strong organizational abilities, including time management, creative thinking, problem-solving, and multitasking, with minimal management supervision.

Substantial experience of working in early years or similar settings, direct experience of supporting children with a range of additional needs and disabilities, and sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Local Offer are essential. You will also have broad knowledge of interaction and intervention strategies to support learning and progress.
