About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as an Academic Department Manager. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a crucial role in enabling effective team working and planning and co-ordination of clinical service provision.

Main Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Act as a visible leader, enabling effective team working and collaboration among team members.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve team performance and productivity.
  • Clinical Service Provision
    • Plan and co-ordinate the provision of clinical services, ensuring that they are safe, effective, and meet the needs of patients.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Staff Management and Development
    • Recruit, retain, and develop staff to ensure that the team has the necessary skills and expertise to deliver high-quality patient care.
    • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to staff to support their professional development.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Ensure that clinical services are delivered in a safe and effective manner, and that patient care is of the highest quality.
    • Identify and implement opportunities for quality improvement and patient safety.
Requirements
  • Qualifications
    • 1st level Registered Nurse (Adult)
    • First level degree in a related subject
    • Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or a relevant subject
    • Evidence of continued professional development
    • Advanced Communications Skills Training or prepared to work towards
    • Recognised teaching/mentorship qualification
    • Management Qualification
  • Experience
    • Relevant post-registration experience, at Band 6 or above, in cancer or a related specialty.
  • Knowledge
    • Knowledge of cancer treatment modalities and services.
    • Role of charities and partnership working in the NHS.
    • NHS structures and functions.
