Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Suffolk County Council's statutory obligations by overseeing a team that conducts regular highway safety inspections to high standards and within set timelines.
  • Maintain a customer-centric approach to investigate all reports of highway defects, ensuring timely updates to customers regarding outcomes.
  • Oversee that reactive maintenance repairs are executed in accordance with statutory duties and the maintenance contract.
  • Adopt an asset management strategy when commissioning small-scale maintenance projects and inform asset managers to prevent deterioration of highway assets.
  • Support the integration of AI technology in surveying highway conditions, including the development of innovative processes to enhance its application.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Proven experience with highway maintenance materials and techniques, along with a solid understanding of highway maintenance standards and asset management.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant policies, codes of practice, and design and construction standards pertaining to highway maintenance.
  • Experience in team management with the ability to prioritize effectively for both long-term and daily objectives to meet deadlines.
  • Adaptability to new innovations and proficiency in utilizing software systems for effective operations.

About the Team:

The Suffolk Highways team is a collaborative effort between Suffolk County Council and private sector service providers, focused on maintaining roads and developing new highway infrastructure. This position is within the Highways & Assessment Team of Infrastructure Management, where you will manage a dedicated team of highways assessment officers.

The broader Infrastructure Management team consists of approximately 120 staff members responsible for implementing highway asset management strategies, commissioning annual work programs, and ensuring the safety of the highway network for all users.
