Role Summary

As a Cargo Inspector at SGS, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the integrity of shipments. Your responsibilities will include sampling cargo and conducting measurements to ensure accurate reporting to clients. You will provide an independent evaluation of the quantity and quality of various materials, including Crude Oil, Petroleum Products, Petrochemicals, and Petroleum Gases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhering to established protocols for measurement activities, including visual inspections, volumetric and temperature measurements, and representative sampling of petrochemical products.
  • Documenting and reporting the outcomes of measurement activities to ascertain accurate load, discharge, and transfer quantities in compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborating and communicating with colleagues, clients, and third parties regarding operational matters, including any delays and potential impacts on work execution.
Physical Demands

The position of Cargo Inspector may require physical endurance and will involve:

  • Working at heights
  • Accessing confined spaces
  • Potentially working on vessels at sea
Training and Support

SGS is committed to providing you with the necessary training, coaching, and mentoring, along with the appropriate equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure you can perform your duties safely and effectively.

Qualifications

We seek candidates with the following skills, experience, and knowledge:

  • Physical resilience and adaptability for demanding outdoor work
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours as part of a 24/7 operational team
  • Experience in the Oil and/or Chemical industry, preferably with prior inspection experience, or relevant maritime experience, or a scientific/nautical qualification with a willingness to learn
  • A valid UK driving license
