Job Details

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Primary Teaching Assistant, supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in our Reception Class.

Job Role
  • Provide individualized support to children with SEN, promoting their emotional regulation and access to education.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and other support staff to develop and implement personalized learning plans.
  • Assist with classroom activities, including preparation, implementation, and evaluation of lessons.
  • Support the class teacher in maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Stage

This role is focused on supporting children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Working Pattern

This is a part-time position, with 30 hours per week (8.45am - 3.15pm with 30 minutes lunch), term time only (FTE 38 weeks per year). We are open to considering part-time hours or job sharing arrangements.

Contract Type

This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months.

Full-time Equivalent Salary

The salary for this position is £23,500 - £25,979.

Requirements
  • Experience of working with children with SEN, particularly those with challenging behaviors.
  • Previous experience in a primary school or EYFS setting is desirable.
  • High standard of basic education in English and Maths, including a GCSE in English and Maths.
  • Additional qualifications in SEN, teaching, or teaching assistance are advantageous.
  • Completed positive handling training and paediatric first aid certification.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with children, motivate them to learn, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to respond calmly and constructively when dealing with students with SEN.
  • Experience of working in a SEN setting and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to seek advice and assistance to meet a pupil's needs and willingness to engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Ability to provide engaging 1:1 support and use a range of strategies for learning and behavior.
  • Ability to work with members of a team and work flexibly.
  • Ability to learn and use a range of strategies to deal with classroom and individual behavior.
  • Good understanding of the Primary National Curriculum and SEN documentation.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
