Main Responsibilities:
  • Operate the glass grinding and furnace plant, ensuring that all equipment and machinery are in good working order.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of grains and furnace, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Conduct pre-use checks on equipment and machinery, ensuring that they are safe and ready for use.
  • Maintain good housekeeping on site, ensuring that the plant is clean and organized.
  • Problem-solve and deal with issues on a day-to-day basis, using your excellent problem-solving skills to find solutions.
  • Have full control of the site during out-of-office hours, ensuring that all processes are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure that the plant is operated in line with safety, environmental, and quality organizational and site-specific rules and procedures.
  • Hands-on running of our furnace plant, ensuring that all Quality and Safety procedures are adhered to.
  • Organize team members as per the needs of the plant, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Complete furnace reports on a daily basis, providing accurate and timely information.
  • Correct material recipes during out-of-hours, ensuring that all processes are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Focus on furnace efficiency and quality, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes.
  • Complete glass gradation checks and interpret information, ensuring that all processes are carried out accurately.
  • Carry out rotex maintenance, ensuring that all equipment and machinery are in good working order.
  • Prepare and complete regular handovers with other Shift Leaders, ensuring that all information is shared and understood.
  • Schedule and assist in routine downtime tasks, ensuring that all processes are carried out efficiently.
  • Provide practical training to your team, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge needed to carry out their roles.
  • Be involved in interview and candidate selection, ensuring that the best candidates are selected for the role.
  • Responsible for safe opening and closing of site for weekend and shutdowns, ensuring that all processes are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested, ensuring that the plant is operated safely and efficiently.
Requirements:
  • NVQ level 3 shift leader/team leader qualification or equivalent, preferred but not essential.
  • Counterbalance forklift license.
  • Experience of operating a front-loading shovel preferred but not essential.
  • Basic Health & Safety qualification/training preferred but not essential.
  • 3 years' experience in a leadership role within a similar environment preferred but not essential.
  • Good organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computing skills including proficient in Microsoft Office e.g. Outlook, Excel etc.
  • Hold a clean, valid driving license (Car).
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leader.
  • Proactive and able to work on their own.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Hardworking and driven with focus on continual improvement.
  • Ability to cope effectively under pressure.
  • Good sickness, timekeeping, and disciplinary record.
  • Healthy and physically fit.
  • Must be able to deal with pressure and demands of the role.

Salary is £34,444 (£16.55 P/H). Recruitment will follow the path of: 16 weeks via agency, then a 9-month fixed-term contract directly with the employer, and finally offered a full-time contract.

Working a 40-hour week on a 3-shift pattern: 7am-3pm Days, 3pm-11pm Afternoons, 11pm-7am Nights. Monday to Friday however this may vary.
