SEMH Teaching Assistant Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team in Barnsley. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs to thrive in their education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to deliver engaging and tailored lessons that cater to the diverse needs of students.
  • Help to create a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social interactions and emotional well-being among students.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviors, using a calm and supportive approach to de-escalate situations.
  • Work closely with other staff members to ensure the best outcomes for students, sharing knowledge and expertise to drive student success.
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly in an SEMH setting.
  • A calm and patient approach to supporting students, with strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • A genuine passion for helping children with SEMH needs achieve their potential, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • A relevant qualification or experience in education is desirable but not essential.
  • An updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
