This full-time opportunity is for a mid/senior Medical Malpractice Attorney to work within the in-house legal team at Signature Clinic. You will collaborate with a seasoned group of legal professionals dedicated to supporting a network of rapidly expanding private healthcare entities across the UK. Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, you will work alongside an experienced paralegal to provide top-tier defense and advisory services to the clinical operations and governance teams. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with the main office situated in Manchester.

Core Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the defense of an active clinical/medical malpractice caseload from inception to resolution.
  • Managing and adjusting case strategies as necessary.
  • Coordinating with external consultants, including surgeons and other medical professionals, as well as our senior management team, insurers, and external legal counsel (including selection, brief preparation, and potential court appearances).
  • Engaging in negotiations and ongoing case management with claimant law firms.
  • Providing tailored, expert legal advice on clinical negligence, including evidence collection, liaising with medical experts, and negotiating settlements.
  • Handling general commercial in-house legal matters and information governance tasks.
  • Staying informed about developments in personal injury law, vicarious liability, and changes in cost regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor in England, having trained at a top 100 UK law firm with a focus on clinical negligence (either claimant or defense).
  • A strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex cases involving multiple defendants, working independently while being part of a supportive team.
  • Capability to quickly adapt and manage an existing caseload, including post-issue claims, assessing potential damages, and advising on settlement prospects and quantum, with a working knowledge of medical malpractice insurance.
  • Willingness to engage with a variety of in-house legal matters, including a foundational understanding of information governance and commercial contracts.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations in the UK and experience in dealing with regulatory bodies.
