About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Editor to join our Editorial Team at ECFR. As an Editor, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the publication of commentaries and policy briefs, ensuring that our output is produced to the highest standards and quality.

Main Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Research Director and editorial team to establish the argument, structure, and scope of each publication.
  • Exercise quality control throughout the process, ensuring that the aims, argument, and methodology of a publication are clear and well-structured.
  • Manage the editing process, including structural editing, line editing, and rewriting parts of publications as needed.
  • Commission graphics to support the main texts, where necessary.
  • Establish and maintain realistic timetables, ensuring close involvement of internal stakeholders.
  • Liaise with relevant Council members and external contacts as part of the publications proposal or review process.
  • Edit and rewrite publications, commentaries, and other written outputs, maintaining high standards.
  • Manage freelance editors, establishing and maintaining high standards.
  • Develop an understanding of, and contribute to, internal ECFR budget processes.
Requirements
  • Proven track record of editing under time pressure.
  • Experience in editing the work of non-native writers who are experts in their fields.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a flawless command of written English; other European languages are an asset.
  • Ability to analyse written texts and identify the key points and structure of argument, and work with authors to bring them out.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other related systems.
  • Experience in commissioning graphics would be an advantage.
  • Flexible and multitasking with the ability to adapt to a changeable conditions and demanding deadlines.
  • Ability to work individually, as well as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-national team, and to develop effective relationships across the organisation.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a good eye for detail and accuracy.
