Overview

The Ministry of Defence – Royal Navy is seeking a dedicated professional to oversee critical submarine operations and infrastructure projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring the operational readiness and capability of the Naval Service, particularly within the Submarine Directorate.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to the Programme Director and stakeholders.
  • Act as a deputy for the Programme Director on relevant matters.
  • Lead a team focused on delivering essential Navy outputs.
  • Facilitate the development of team members and assist in achieving departmental objectives.
  • Foster collaborative relationships within the team and across various organizations.
  • Educate and coach colleagues on best practices in programme management.
Project Coordination and Development
  • Manage internal and external resources to meet project delivery goals.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Programme Director and Senior Responsible Owner.
  • Recruit and develop programme office staff to align with project demands.
  • Oversee succession planning within the team.
  • Monitor programme progress, addressing issues and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Identify risks and manage conflicts effectively.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Lead the implementation of an integrated project team approach, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Budget and Resource Management

  • Ensure adherence to financial management policies set by the Ministry of Defence.

  • Support the development of business cases and manage scrutiny processes.
Candidate Profile

Essential Experience:
  • Proficient in schedule management and risk assessment.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting and cost management.
  • Experience in stakeholder communication and management.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading multidisciplinary teams at a senior management level.
Desirable Experience:
  • Familiarity with government financial approval processes for large-scale projects.
  • Extensive experience in managing multi-million-pound infrastructure programmes.
