Position Summary
The Apprentice Mechanical Fitter will engage in a thorough educational journey to acquire a diverse set of engineering skills complemented by hands-on experience in troubleshooting and installation tasks. This role is designed to provide foundational knowledge through both theoretical learning and practical application under the mentorship of the Maintenance Department. The selected candidate will aim to achieve CompEx Mechanical qualifications, gaining valuable experience in environments with potential hazards.
Key Responsibilities
The Apprentice will report directly to the Engineering Supervisor and will be responsible for:
- Ensuring compliance with all legal regulations and adherence to the company's quality, health & safety, and environmental policies.
- Fostering a culture of health and safety by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and promptly reporting any near misses or unsafe conditions.
- Following company policies while collaborating with experienced Tradebe Mechanical Fitters.
- Completing daily tasks to a high standard with guidance from seasoned Tradebe personnel.
- Collaborating with the Mechanical Fitter and Engineering Supervisor to ensure timely completion of CMMS jobs and task lists.
- Working alongside the Engineering Supervisor to guarantee that all mechanical projects, enhancements, repairs, and shutdowns are executed to the required standards and timelines.
- Reporting any equipment defects, faults, or alarms, ensuring that issues are addressed and unsafe items are isolated and communicated effectively.
- Adhering to Tradebe's permit-to-work procedures, ensuring that risk assessments and control measures are established before commencing tasks.
- Participating in training sessions related to engineering tasks or operations relevant to their work area.
- Ensuring that all waste produced by the mechanical engineering team is disposed of efficiently and in accordance with current regulations while upholding cleanliness standards.
- Observing, learning, and mastering a variety of engineering skills and processes under the guidance of skilled technicians.
- Demonstrating acquired skills and processes progressively by working independently or as part of a team to complete assigned tasks, thereby enhancing contributions to the Maintenance Department.
- Successfully completing relevant college courses throughout the apprenticeship, achieving the necessary academic and practical qualifications in Mechanical Engineering.
- Understanding the significance of Health and Safety in the workplace, particularly in relation to COMAH and hazardous areas.
- Developing the ability to execute technical tasks based on verbal instructions and supplier documentation.
- Learning to maintain workshop equipment and ensure it remains in optimal condition.
- Keeping a detailed logbook throughout the apprenticeship to document projects and skills acquired.
- Maintaining cleanliness across plant and workshop environments.
- Performing any additional duties as directed by the Engineering Supervisor.
