Economist Specialist

Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Environmental Economist to join our Natural Capital team at AtkinsRéalis. As a key member of our team, you will play a central role in developing and contributing to technical quality assurance and projects with a natural capital and environmental economics focus.

Responsibilities:

1. You will be responsible for maintaining and growing our reputation for technical excellence and working collaboratively to both win and deliver work across our extensive client portfolio.
2. You will have the opportunity to support on flood risk economic appraisals, business cases, biodiversity net gain and carbon net zero themes on a wide variety of projects across the business.
3. You will need to keep up to date with the rapidly developing field of natural capital and the application of evolving economic techniques.
4. You will also have the opportunity to input to the development and refinement of new and existing digital tools that quantify and illustrate environmental impacts in a clear and visual way.
5. You will contribute to business development and will be responsible for the successful delivery of key tasks on projects or on bids.
6. This will include managing contributions from junior team members and will be focused on achieving and delivering technical excellence.
7. You will ideally have experience of undertaking flood risk management economic appraisals utilising the approaches set out in the Multi-Coloured Manual (MCM) and Handbook to develop HM Treasury compliant business cases.

Requirements:

1. You will be a Scientist or Economist, preferably chartered, who has demonstrable experience in environmental economics, through either a combination of academic training or on-the-job experience.
2. A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Environmental Economics or Environmental Science and Policy) and preferably a relevant post-graduate qualification.
3. Ideally chartered environmentalist or chartered scientist or working towards it.
4. Competent project manager, with experience of winning work and technical leadership of projects.
