Join Our Team as a Chemistry Laboratory Technician Apprentice

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Chemistry Laboratory Technician Apprentice. As a key member of our Materials and Analytical Sciences team, you will play a vital role in supporting our research and development activities.

About the Role

As a Chemistry Laboratory Technician Apprentice, you will be responsible for assisting our experienced technicians in the laboratory, gaining hands-on experience and developing your skills in laboratory safety, handling hazardous substances, and quality control. You will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including the analysis of samples and the preparation of substances.

During your apprenticeship, you will learn from our experienced team and develop a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge required to work successfully in a laboratory environment. You will also have the opportunity to participate in team-building activities, health and safety workshops, and charity projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist experienced technicians in the laboratory
  • Develop skills in laboratory safety, handling hazardous substances, and quality control
  • Work on a variety of projects, including the analysis of samples and the preparation of substances
  • Participate in team-building activities, health and safety workshops, and charity projects
Requirements
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Awareness of health and safety
  • The ability to follow instructions
  • The ability to concentrate for long periods
  • A real passion for laboratory work
  • Five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English, and 3 A Levels, including Chemistry (or equivalent)
  • Applicants must be aged 18 or over, as of 31st August 2025, due to security clearance requirements
  • You must be a British National to apply for a role with us

Training

As a Chemistry Laboratory Technician Apprentice, you will work towards a BEng (Hons) in Chemistry. You will attend university once a week, participating in formal lectures, study guides, course notes, directed reading, class tutorials, assignments, small group projects, workshops, and laboratories.

Assessment of the academic element of this apprenticeship will consist of coursework, exams, and timed assessments. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills in employer-focused contextual content.
