About the Role

Due to continued growth and contract wins, our client is seeking to add to their incredibly busy R&D division in the appointment of a Robotics Software Engineer. Reporting to the NPD Manager, the primary purpose of the role is to explore cutting-edge technologies and develop Robotics and Software solutions for their current and future product ranges.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Developing and writing efficient, well-designed, testable, and maintainable code.
  2. Assisting during the commissioning/testing of existing and future products.
  3. Integrating software components into a fully functional software system.
  4. Maintaining a knowledge of current software development trends to assist in the development of current and future products and internal product design processes.
  5. Coaching team members to improve capabilities and develop their software knowledge/expertise.
  6. Generating operating and troubleshooting instructions suitable for integration into customer manuals.
  7. Contributing to the selection and specification of the electronics hardware that software will be installed onto and interface to.

About You

To be considered for the role, it is essential that you possess demonstrable experience gained in robotics/automation/machine control systems software engineering within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Physics, or Maths.
  2. Experience with Linux and developing real-time software in C/C++, Java, or Python.
  3. A basic understanding of electronics and the ability to read electrical schematics.
  4. Experience with ROS, machine learning, and OpenCV advantageous.
  5. Knowledge of CODESYS or similar PLC software is beneficial.
  6. Experience of testing or reviewing software written by others is desirable.
  7. Experience working in a multi-disciplined engineering team.
  8. Ability to investigate and interpret data, issues, and situations, to make sound decisions in high-stress situations.
  9. Appetite for learning new technologies and applications.
  10. Ability to work to deadlines whilst maintaining high quality.
  11. Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications including Excel and Word.
