Position Overview

A prominent local authority is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to enhance its auditing capabilities. This role is structured as a temporary contract with the potential for extension based on fiscal considerations and performance metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a variety of audits, including risk-oriented assessments and critical financial system evaluations, as outlined in the approved annual Audit Plan.
  • Draft comprehensive reports assessing the effectiveness of internal controls in managing risks and ensuring adherence to applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide actionable recommendations and collaborate with management to address identified control deficiencies or compliance issues.
  • Offer audit-related guidance to management for various initiatives, including projects, procurement, system processes, operational efficiencies, and organizational changes.
  • Execute special investigations, including whistleblower inquiries, as directed by management.
  • Oversee and perform peer evaluations as necessary for individual audit assignments.
  • Stay informed about developments within the authority, advancements in auditing methodologies, and emerging technologies.
  • Act as a representative for the Head of Internal Audit or Principal Auditor in external forums and internal committees regarding audit-related matters.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Shared Internal Audit in alignment with the role's grading.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring safe working practices and reporting any hazardous conditions.
  • Identify personal training and development needs in collaboration with the Head of Shared Internal Audit and engage in relevant training opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all departmental communications and activities.
