About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel to join our team at RWE Supply & Trading GmbH. As a key member of our legal and compliance team, you will provide expert advice on all legal and compliance matters on a global basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on contracts for the sale and purchase of physically delivered commodities and associated logistics contracts
  • Provide guidance on credit and finance matters relating to the shipping and physical commodities markets
  • Review and negotiate chartering terms with counterparties prior to fixing vessels
  • Assist with standard and non-standard shipping and trading documentation, including bills of lading, LOIs and documentary and standby letters of credit

Requirements

  • Qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales with relevant working experience, either as in a law firm or working in-house
  • Preferably, experience working in the energy sector, in particular commodity trading or energy projects including those with debt finance
  • Comfortable advising on a substantial proportion of your day to day work without recourse to external counsel
  • Strong proven legal technical ability in either contentious or non-contentious work with a track record of being able to pick up and learn new areas of law and advise upon them with a depth of knowledge in short timescales
  • Self-motivated to drive the business and deliver results and develop skills in new areas of law with appropriate support
  • Used to advising stakeholders as equals, do not shy away from conflict and are confident to defend your position when challenged
  • Enjoy working in a global context, including in cross-functional teams
