The Position:
We are in search of a skilled and dynamic manufacturing operations leader to direct our production activities in a diverse and adaptable environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in heavy engineering, fabrication, welding, and finishing processes. A strong focus on continuous improvement and lean methodologies is essential, as is the ability to lead a varied team while ensuring adherence to rigorous quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Oversight:
- Evaluate upcoming production tasks and address any potential issues in collaboration with relevant departments prior to the start of production.
- Utilize advanced scheduling tools to allocate production tasks and resources effectively, ensuring optimal utilization of all assets.
- Manage material logistics and workspace allocation to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Conduct regular production meetings with the management team to review progress, identify challenges, and coordinate support across departments.
Team Leadership:
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that aligns with company values.
- Maintain an active presence on the production floor, balancing administrative duties with hands-on engagement.
- Participate in shop floor activities to enhance production efficiency and boost team morale.
- Oversee the annual apprenticeship program and ensure compliance with educational requirements.
- Enhance team skills through mentorship and training initiatives, pairing less experienced staff with seasoned professionals.
- Manage employee attendance, working hours, and payroll processes through our ERP system.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and identify training needs for personnel development.
- Address any disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies, prioritizing training and performance improvement.
Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE):
- Support the implementation of QHSE management systems and promote compliance among the workforce.
- Actively engage in quality assurance and problem resolution to eliminate barriers to production.
- Ensure that all equipment inspections are conducted timely and that any deficiencies are promptly addressed.
- Encourage sustainable practices such as recycling and energy conservation to meet regulatory standards.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
- Lead the adoption of lean manufacturing principles to enhance production processes and minimize waste.
- Apply methodologies such as 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Six Sigma to optimize workflows.
- Mentor team members in lean practices to build internal capabilities and foster a culture of improvement.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A degree in engineering or a related field is preferred, although candidates with substantial manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply.
- Proven leadership abilities with a history of cultivating high-performing teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Familiarity with QHSE management systems; a recognized health and safety qualification is advantageous.
