Critical Care Staff Nurse
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde stands as one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK, employing approximately 40,000 individuals across a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical roles. Our organization is dedicated to delivering comprehensive acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population exceeding 1.15 million, with a broader reach of 2.2 million through our regional and national services.
Eligibility Requirements: To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a valid NMC registration in the UK.
Note: Applications from newly qualified nurses or midwives will not be accepted for this position.
Shift Pattern: This role operates on a 24-hour rotational shift basis.
We are looking for dedicated professionals to become part of our dynamic and innovative team within the Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Given the current healthcare landscape, we expect the successful candidate to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to fulfill the evolving needs of the Critical Care service. Our Critical Care unit manages both level 2 and level 3 patients, and regular rotation across all areas is encouraged and necessary to meet service demands.
The Intensive Care and High Dependency Units cater to a specific patient demographic requiring intricate interventions, including ventilatory support (both invasive and non-invasive), cardiovascular assistance, and renal support. Glasgow Royal Infirmary also extends ICU/HDU tertiary support for specialties such as Burns and Plastics, Pancreatitis, and Orthopaedics. We seek motivated individuals who are committed to delivering patient-centered care with a focus on service enhancement.
Successful candidates will participate in a 12-month Competency-Based Programme, culminating in a personalized self-development plan that includes the Critical Care Course accredited by Glasgow Caledonian University. Additional funding support is available for management SVQ courses, NES courses, and Master's programs at West of Scotland University.
In addition to current NMC registration, candidates must demonstrate ongoing professional development, possess basic IT skills, exhibit strong communication abilities, and show enthusiasm for working in a Critical Care setting.
We have implemented a Quality Initiative program centered around patient-focused care, and we are looking for candidates with a proactive attitude who are open to change. We encourage applications from individuals who have a genuine interest in advancing their careers in Critical Care, particularly those with prior experience in this field.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is committed to fostering a diverse workforce and encourages applications from all segments of the community. We take pride in our inclusive culture.
By endorsing the Armed Forces Covenant, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has affirmed its commitment to being a Forces Friendly Employer, recognizing military skills, experience, and qualifications during the recruitment process.
As of April 2024, NHS Scotland will reduce the full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours, with no change in remuneration. This adjustment will also apply proportionately to part-time staff. Consequently, this job advertisement and any subsequent employment offers will reflect the new working hours. However, some service areas may not immediately transition to the 37-hour workweek, and candidates may be required to work an additional 30 minutes per week temporarily, for which they will be compensated until service rosters are updated.
For any issues related to the application portal or login, please refer to the Candidate Information Packs.
