We are currently seeking a Junior Rolling Stock Maintenance Technician to assist in our commitment to delivering a safe and dependable tram service.
In this role, you will engage in scheduled preventative maintenance on trams, working with various systems that include mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic components, adhering to maintenance protocols and departmental guidelines.
The MML Rolling Stock Apprenticeship is a comprehensive 4-year program, in collaboration with Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMet), focusing on the Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Rail Engineering Technician - Traction and Rolling Stock Pathway.
Your training will be structured as follows:
- Year 1: Full-time study at college
- Year 2: 1 day at college, 4 days in the department
- Year 3: 1 day at college, 4 days in the department
- Year 4: College attendance as required while working in the department
As a Junior Rolling Stock Maintenance Technician, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the testing, commissioning, and acceptance of new trams.
- Documenting all work activities, including preventative and corrective maintenance, in both paper records and the Asset Management Information System (AMIS).
- Supporting the Rolling Stock Engineering Management in executing the production plan.
- Ensuring timely completion of examination tasks in line with the planned maintenance schedule.
- Conducting driving duties within the depot as per operational procedures.
- Participating in training and competency assessments to achieve MML-specific and national qualifications.
To excel in this position, you should possess:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including Maths, English, and Science.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- A Full UK Driving License prior to completing the apprenticeship.
Experience in an engineering setting would be advantageous.
