About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Control Officer/Surveyor to join our team at Michael Page (UK). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring that building work within the district is managed effectively and in compliance with building regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the day-to-day control of building work within the district, ensuring compliance with building regulations and ancillary legislation.
  2. Lead contact for major/complex projects, responsible for plans examination, site inspections, and enforcement.
  3. Check plans and notices for compliance with building regulations, prepare amendment schedules, and correspond with relevant parties.
  4. Inspect work on site, ensuring compliance with building regulations and relevant legislation.
  5. Recover fees and charges in relation to building control applications, in accordance with the scheme of charges and controlling legislation.
  6. Investigate alleged breaches of building regulations, gather evidence, and attend court hearings as required.
  7. Maintain accurate records of site inspections, telephone conversations, meetings, and emails.
  8. Liaise with clients, architects, surveyors, engineers, agents, contractors, and other industry professionals.
  9. Undertake routine written work, correspondence, and administrative duties in connection with building control functions.
  10. Contribute to the effective marketing of Local Authority Building Control, promoting awareness of the competitive nature of Local Authority Building Control and the threat of other providers.
  11. Assist in the commercial development of the group, identifying and exploiting additional revenue streams.
  12. Participate in cross-boundary and partnership working with other local authorities as required.
  13. Assist in the business-based management of the group, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  14. Provide advice to the public and other departments on building regulation and construction matters.
  15. Advise applicants and consider applications for dispensation of building regulation requirements.
  16. Organise testing of controlled services and materials when necessary.
  17. Carry out prompt investigations and inspections of dangerous structures, including emergency remedial work and liaison with emergency services.
  18. Serve as an asset of the Council's Emergency Plan.
  19. Investigate, inspect, and take related actions in respect of the control of demolitions, including the service of statutory notices.
  20. Administer Initial Notices, Plans Certificates, and Final Certificates relating to The Building (Approved Inspectors etc.)
  21. Investigate building failures, prepare reports, and gather evidence for insurance purposes.
  22. Provide information on the progress of construction works for statistical returns.
  23. Prepare information required for Land charges Searches relating to the Building Regulations.
  24. Liaise with other groups within the council on matters of common interest, such as use of materials, levels, setting out, and enforcement of Planning conditions.
  25. Assist in the promotion of the group and dissemination of changing regulatory requirements by developing and updating information leaflets, guidance documents, and the group's website.
Requirements

Competent and experienced within building control functions, registered to minimum Class 2.
