About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Design Coordinator to join our team at AmcoGiffen, a leading provider of rail and civil engineering services. As a Design Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in the delivery of our projects, working closely with our engineering team to ensure that designs are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee design progress against schedule and budget, identifying and implementing corrective measures as necessary.
  • Review, negotiate, and recommend for approval/disapproval on design change orders, ensuring that they are in line with project requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Formal liaison with, and progress reporting to, Design, Business Development, Estimating, Planning, Operational, and Commercial functions at each business location as appropriate.
  • Administer design subcontract, including processing monthly invoices for payment and coordinating design incentive/disincentive programs.
  • Coordinate and control design submittals for owner's review and approval, ensuring that they meet project requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Facilitate resolving design issues with the owner, ensuring that they are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Identify changes in the scope of work and ensure that change orders are current and adequate, preparing early warning and change instruction documentation as necessary.
  • Identify risk and opportunity in the design and the design/construct interface, ensuring that they are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Check that documents in use are current, readily available to those requiring them, and stored securely.
  • Assess the standard of all proposed installation work associated with the project, undertaking inspections and preparing full reports as necessary, and submitting these to the Senior Contracts Manager or including the contents within an appropriate program of works.
  • Input and coordinate review of constructability, value engineering, and contractor preferences throughout the project life cycle.
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture and the use of best practice.
  • Support and coordinate handback process for project closeout.
Requirements
  • A degree in a rail/civil engineering discipline, together with membership of an engineering institution providing Chartered Engineer status (or working towards/close to achieving professional qualification, e.g., ICE).
  • Experience in a similar Design Coordination role in a rail contracting environment.
  • A clear understanding of design delivery processes.
  • Experience of the management of design consultants, including the preparation of consultant's briefs.
  • A clear understanding of commercial engagement and contractual management of design consultants.
  • A working knowledge of the CDM regulations, including the roles and responsibilities of the Designer and of the Principal Contractor.
