Community Nursing Practitioner – Pathway to Specialist Qualification
2 months ago
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde stands as one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK, employing approximately 40,000 individuals across a diverse array of clinical and non-clinical roles. Our organization is dedicated to delivering comprehensive healthcare services, including acute hospital care, primary care, community services, and mental health support to a population exceeding 1.15 million, with a broader reach of 2.2 million through our regional and national services.
In a progressive move, NHS Scotland is set to reduce the full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours, effective from April 2024, without any alterations to pay. This adjustment will also apply on a pro-rata basis for part-time staff. Consequently, this job listing reflects the updated working hours. However, it is important to note that certain service areas may not immediately transition to the 37-hour workweek, and you may be required to work an additional 30 minutes weekly temporarily, for which you will be compensated until the service adjusts its rosters.
The role involves a shift pattern of five days within a seven-day service, encompassing public holidays, weekends, out-of-hours, and backshifts. We are excited to announce an opportunity for a registered nurse with substantial community experience and a first-level degree or equivalent to enroll in the PgD in Advancing District Nursing Practice at Glasgow Caledonian University, commencing in September 2024.
This course is structured on a part-time basis over two years. You will receive support to attend university, along with protected study leave during academic semesters. While not attending university, you will engage in practical work as part of the community team. The working pattern remains five days over a seven-day service, including public holidays, weekends, out-of-hours, and backshifts. Candidates must possess an appropriate academic credit rating, typically a degree, and demonstrate recent academic engagement. During the course, candidates will be employed as SPQ students – Community Staff Nurse Band 5, with managerial responsibilities for a caseload. Successful students who complete the required modules will advance to Associate District Charge Nurses in their second year, receiving an uplift to Band 6. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be considered for a permanent Band 6 District Nursing position within Renfrewshire HSCP, with geographical preferences taken into account.
We seek self-motivated practitioners who can showcase an evidence-based approach to their practice. The evolving landscape of primary care demands clinical practitioners committed to enhancing their skills through continuous professional development and lifelong learning. Candidates must exhibit strong leadership and communication abilities. In the practice environment, students will be supported by a Community Practice Teacher/Practice Assessor, who will assist in developing a tailored learning experience and oversee the assessment of competence.
The learning outcomes of the modules will be achieved through a combination of university and practice-based learning, assessed via various methods, including written assignments, examinations, and a practice learning plan. Successful candidates will have their course fees covered by Renfrewshire HSCP. Students will also be eligible for travel expenses incurred during clinical placements, though travel expenses to and from the university will not be reimbursed.
We encourage applications from all sections of the community, promoting a culture of inclusion within our organization. We take pride in our diverse workforce and are committed to being a Forces Friendly Employer, recognizing military skills, experience, and qualifications during the recruitment process.
