The urology department is allocated 2.5 robotic sessions per week, and it is anticipated that the applicant would average between 1-2 sessions per week on average. The department is considering triple session theatre lists.

Main Duties of the Job

The Urology unit at Buckinghamshire provides general and specialist urology care for over half a million population. The post generates general urology with a subspecialist interest in Pelvic Oncology as experience allows. There are opportunities to develop links with neighbouring healthcare providers and to set up a regional functional robotic surgical service.

The Trust is a provider of surgical treatments for BPH, including bipolar TURP, Urolift, HoLEP, PAE and green light laser prostatectomy. We have a Da Vinci Xi surgical robot and offer a robotic cancer service with upper tract surgery and prostatectomy, specialist stone surgery including supine mini-PCNL.

The National Spinal Injuries Centre, a world-famous centre for the management of patients with spinal injury, is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Our team supports the spinal and urology surgeons in providing urological care for these patients.

Person Specification

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced urologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have:

  • MB, BS or equivalent qualifications
  • Full GMC registration
  • Entry on the GMC specialist register in Urology via CCT/ CESR/ European community rights
  • General training in Urological Surgery, FRCS(Urol) or equivalent eg FEBU; CCST in Urological Surgery
  • OR within six months of achieving CCST at the time of interview.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • General training in Urological Surgery specialist level or equivalent.
  • Ability to make good decisions at consultant level.
  • Extensive experience in Urology
  • Experience in reconstructive urological surgery, including any fellowship training

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Excellent leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant
  • Evidence for surgical and clinical skills in Urology to undertake a consultant role.
  • Good personal and interpersonal skills.
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Communication skills should be highly developed.
  • Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and Undergraduates
  • Experience of clinical audit.
  • Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS.
  • Management training and experience.
  • Computer skills.
  • Communication skills training.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
  • Ability to travel to and between sites
