Job Summary

Teaching Assistant (TA)

Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with high levels of need in a specialist school environment
  • Deliver lessons and assess pupils' learning across all curriculum areas
  • Supervise and assist individual or small groups of pupils
  • Develop pupils' social skills and implement behaviour management strategies
  • Provide support for pupils inside and outside the classroom
  • Accompany pupils on school trips and swimming
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with pupils
  • Ensure the care, health, and welfare of pupils at all times
  • Work with outside agencies to support pupils' needs
  • Assist pupils with physical needs and difficulties
  • Assist pupils with their personal hygiene needs
  • Help prepare classroom materials for lessons
  • Liaise with the Class Teacher to contribute to Learning Support Plans
  • Take a role in supporting the integration of pupils into their classes
  • Deliver intervention programmes
  • Attend staff training as appropriate
  • Undertake other duties within the scope of the provision
Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils by supervising and assisting individual or small groups
  • Develop pupils' social skills by supporting them in groups
  • Implement behaviour management policies in accordance with guidance provided by the school
  • Provide support for pupils inside and outside the classroom
  • Be aware of the early signs of bullying and disruptive behaviour and intervene as necessary
  • Help the inclusion of all pupils, including those with EAL
  • Help keep pupils on task by giving individual attention
  • Accompany classes on school trips and swimming
  • Build and maintain close and secure relationships with pupils
  • Ensure the care, health, and welfare of pupils at all times
Supporting Teachers
  • Evidencing pupil progress by using assessment
  • Working with outside agencies to support pupils' needs
  • Assisting pupils with physical needs and difficulties
  • Assisting pupils with their personal hygiene needs
  • Helping implement lesson plans and making possible more ambitious learning activities
  • Providing feedback to teachers by observing pupil performance and behaviour
  • Getting classroom materials ready for a session or lesson
  • Liaising with class teacher, sharing lesson plans, and contributing to IEPs and EHCP reviews
