Position Overview:
SJR Partners is in search of a proficient Health & Safety (H&S) Manager to lead our operations within the manufacturing sector in the West Midlands. This role is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned H&S expert to develop and enhance a strong Health and Safety Culture across our extensive manufacturing facility, which encompasses a variety of operations.


Our ideal candidate will possess an NVQ Level 6 or a Diploma in Health & Safety, along with practical experience in managing relevant management standards such as ISO 14001. Additionally, holding CMIOSH status or working towards it would be a valuable asset.


As a motivated and enthusiastic individual, you will be part of a robust management team that provides support and direction, enabling you to shape and elevate health and safety standards while taking full responsibility for safety protocols.

This critical role involves a range of hands-on operational duties, acting as the guardian of H&S matters. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with ISO 45001, leading monthly H&S meetings, conducting inductions and toolbox talks, and reviewing risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

This position offers a unique chance for you to imprint your vision and establish a vibrant Health and Safety culture/process within the framework of governance, legislation, and compliance.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and industry best practices, ensuring regular reviews and updates.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard identifications, implementing effective control measures to mitigate risks.
  • Perform regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, promptly addressing any areas of non-compliance.
  • Provide comprehensive training to employees on health and safety policies, including fire safety, first aid, and manual handling.
  • Investigate and report on accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending preventive measures.
  • Build strong relationships with external contractors and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with all relevant reports, licenses, and permits.
  • Develop and maintain safety KPI metrics to drive performance improvement.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes, providing informed advice to employees and management.
  • Actively promote a world-class manufacturing ethos throughout the organization.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation control in line with HSE system requirements.

Candidate Profile:
  • A skilled generalist H&S professional, suitable for either an established Health & Safety Manager or a Health & Safety Advisor transitioning into a leadership role.
  • An engaging and effective communicator, capable of interacting across all levels of the organization.
  • A proactive operational leader, who is visible and hands-on on the manufacturing floor.
  • Confident, assertive, and skilled at providing constructive feedback.
  • NEBOSH Certificate as a minimum requirement, with manufacturing experience being essential.
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification.
  • Desirable - Completion of CITB Site Safety Plus course.
  • Membership of a professional body, such as the Association for Project Safety (APS), would be advantageous.
