We are excited to announce an opening for an Environmental Protection Advisor within our Health, Safety, and Environment team at Yorkshire Water. This role is crucial in ensuring we deliver exceptional service to our customers while safeguarding the environment.

Role Overview:

As a water utility provider, we ensure that over 5.4 million residents and countless visitors in our region have access to clean and safe drinking water, while also managing wastewater effectively. Our commitment extends beyond service delivery; we are dedicated to community welfare and environmental stewardship.

With evolving environmental regulations, significant investment, and rising customer expectations, this is an exciting time to explore opportunities within the water sector. The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team plays a vital role in adapting to these changes.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance on environmental legislation, regulatory compliance, and internal environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance environmental performance and mitigate risks.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of environmental procedures within the Integrated Management System.
  • Design and deliver in-house environmental training and awareness programs.
  • Investigate significant environmental incidents and support the organization in implementing preventative measures, including leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) when necessary.
  • Support the HSE Leadership Team in achieving strategic objectives.
  • Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and risk assessments across operational and asset delivery sites to ensure compliance and assess the effectiveness of HSE management systems.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Understanding of ISO 14001 and environmental management systems.
  • Experience in auditing, inspections, and investigations.
  • Proficient in drafting environmental procedures, reports, and training materials.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel within the Yorkshire region.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional membership with IEMA, CIWEM, or equivalent.
  • Trained internal environmental auditor.
  • Technical knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting regulations.
  • Experience with incident investigation methodologies.
