Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Cardiothoracic Progressive Care Unit (PCU) team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients who have undergone cardiac and thoracic procedures and require step-down care from Intensive Care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement specialized programs of nursing care to meet the unique needs of patients in the PCU.
  • Lead a team of qualified, support, and student nurses to ensure seamless delivery of care.
  • Take charge of the ward/department regularly, ensuring effective management and coordination of patient care.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse to maintain the highest standards of nursing care and quality improvement initiatives.
About the Role

This is a fixed-term contract position for a maximum of 12 months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of patient care and the service.

Requirements
  • Registered on Part 1 of the NMC register.
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Completed the national PEAP program for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Evidence of post-registered education relevant to the role.
Desirable Criteria
  • NTCCN ITU course or equivalent (completed or working towards).
  • Experience of caring for patients with cardiac/thoracic conditions in a level 2 facility.
  • Previous Band 6 experience.
  • Knowledge of patient flow within an acute service.
