Senior Software Development Engineer, AWS

About the Role

As a Senior Software Development Engineer at AWS, you will be part of a dynamic team that builds the cloud infrastructure that powers the world's largest cloud computing platform. You will work on designing, developing, and operating large-scale software systems that enable our customers to innovate and grow.

Our team is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

You'll collaborate with a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll work closely with our customers to understand their needs and deliver solutions that meet their expectations. Your work will have a direct impact on the success of our customers and the growth of the cloud.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the development of large-scale software systems using Python and other languages
  2. Design and architect software solutions from scratch
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver software solutions that meet customer needs
  4. Work closely with customers to understand their requirements and deliver solutions that meet their expectations
  5. Support the operation of software systems through a shared on-call rota
Requirements

  1. Background as a senior professional software engineer with experience leading development of software systems
  2. Experience designing and developing software systems using Python and other languages
  3. Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and the ability to apply them in a cloud environment
  4. Expertise in coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Preferred Qualifications

  1. Expertise in other languages and technologies
  2. Experience designing, developing, or operating cloud services running on AWS or another cloud platform
  3. Experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events
  4. Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (host networking, storage, *nix operating systems)
