About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team at Network Rail. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for providing client-side engineering leadership to projects from early development to delivery and handback within the Eastern Route.

Working within a small team of client-side engineers, you will provide technical leadership and assurance to projects, collaborating with funders and suppliers to ensure concepts are deliverable. You will also work with asset managers and internal specialists to provide clarity on requirements and gain endorsement of proposals.

The ideal candidate will have engineering experience relating to Buildings, Stations, Civils, and Structures within the railway environment. You will have a strong understanding of railway systems and internal technical interfaces, as well as knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects.

We are looking for someone who can lead the building/civils engineering aspects and bring together all the technical specialists within the railway environment to provide high-value, minimum-cost solutions that meet the essential needs of stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities
  • Agreeing technical outputs with sponsors and stakeholders
  • Technical discipline leadership
  • Monitoring competence of contractors' design, construction, and specialist personnel
  • Identifying and sharing best practice across various project teams
  • Carrying out the duties of designated project engineer (DPE) for specific projects
  • Applying engineering controls and procedures to all projects using relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis
  • Implementing Network Rail systems and procedures monitoring all projects for compliance with Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards and project control procedures and construction design management (CDM) regulations
Essential Criteria
  • Engineering experience relating to Buildings, Stations, Civils, and Structures within the railway environment
  • A desire to help internal and external clients specify affordable outputs that can be delivered within their timescales
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate non-technical aspirations into clear, unambiguous engineering requirements
  • Respectful challenging of stakeholders where necessary
  • Successful relevant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi-discipline areas
  • Appreciation of Inclusive Design and CDM regulations
