About the Role

The Whitehall And Industry Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Independent Member to join the Finance Audit and Risk Committee (FARC) of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England. As a key member of the committee, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective management of the organization's resources and risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and maintain a deep understanding of the organization's functions, environment, and challenges.
  • Engage constructively with the FARC committee and executive team to stay informed about key areas of activity, risk, culture, practices, and concerns.
  • Devote sufficient time to discharge responsibilities and actively seek clarification or amplification as necessary.
  • Contribute constructively in committee meetings by drawing on skills, experience, and knowledge.
  • Provide expert advice, challenge, and expertise in finance from a background in this space.
Requirements
  • Chartered Accountant with a minimum of 2-3 years PQE experience.
  • Ability to quickly grasp an understanding of the organization and its challenges.
  • Confidence and proven track record to challenge, support, and question using sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate with others in a constructive way.
Desirable Experience
  • Prior experience of the challenges facing a small organization or social enterprise.
  • Working understanding of managing and mitigating risk.
  • Experience of providing constructive challenge alongside support.
  • Prior knowledge of audit and governance.
  • Understanding of taking a strategic and top-level approach.
  • Understanding of mental health needs and challenges.
  • Understanding of training or education services.
  • Prior experience of digital transformation.
Committee Meetings

The committee meets every other month on a Monday, with papers sent a week in advance. Meetings are held virtually, with occasional in-person meetings in London. The expectation is for committee members to have digested the papers fully before each meeting.
