Role Overview:
This position can be based at either Rotherham, West Yorkshire or Culham, Oxfordshire. Candidates must complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop high-fidelity simulation and software codes for the design and optimization of digital-physical systems.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experimental and simulation engineers to enhance the deployment of imaging sensors in real-world experiments.
- Implement innovative solutions to scientific and engineering challenges through the creation of new simulation and software tools.
- Represent UKAEA at international conferences and technical meetings.
- Produce impactful outputs, including presentations at major conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Doctoral degree in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physical science, or equivalent experience in a structured research environment.
- Excellent collaborative skills with the ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly across disciplines.
AND
- Practical experience in computational engineering fields such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid mechanics (CFD), Monte-Carlo methods, or computational electromagnetics.
- Experience in running simulations from the command line using software-specific scripting languages.
- Proficiency in a scripting language (e.g., Python, Matlab, Julia, R) for data analysis and visualization.
OR
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, C/C++) for simulation, analysis, and visualization of scientific/engineering data.
- Familiarity with coding, testing, and documenting best practices, including version control systems like Git.
- Experience with command line and Linux/UNIX operating systems or Windows Subsystem for Linux.
