Medical Director

The Deputy Medical Director - Acute Services is a key leadership position within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Acute Senior Management Team. This role requires a strong medical leader with experience in acute/health and social care or public health services, who can inspire confidence and respect among colleagues to deliver key professional and service objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Provide medical leadership across the range of acute services in NHSGGC, promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement and ensuring robust systems are in place to monitor, review, and improve clinical performance.
- Directly influence the strategic direction of the acute sector, supporting the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Medical Director to plan high-quality, economic, safe, efficient, and patient-centered services in compliance with local and national targets.
- Lead and deliver on key professional and service objectives, demonstrating strong influencing and leadership qualities.
- Collaborate with other members of the Acute Senior Management Team to provide medical leadership and support the development of acute services.
- Provide professional leadership to medical staff within acute services, promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement and ensuring there are robust systems in place to monitor, review, and improve clinical performance.
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous medical management experience within acute/health and social care or public health services.
- Strong influencing and leadership qualities, with the ability to inspire confidence and respect among colleagues.
- The ability to lead and deliver on key professional and service objectives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels.
- A strong understanding of the acute sector and the ability to influence the strategic direction of services.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including a relocation package where appropriate. The post also carries an annual management fee and a time allowance equivalent of 7 programmed activities, which will be discussed on an individual basis to determine the split between direct clinical care and supporting professional activities.
