The Trainee Underwriter will undergo comprehensive training and support to become proficient in carrying out underwriting and processing of all new Home Finance applications from receipt of application through to offer.
They will effectively manage conversations and communications with Brokers and internal colleagues, ensuring service levels are maintained while adhering to the Credit Risk Governance frameworks in operation within the Bank, such as Know Your Customer (KYC) and Fraud Awareness.
Once the Trainee Underwriter reaches competent status, they will be prioritized for the next available Underwriting vacancy; they will not automatically be moved into an Underwriting role.
- Assess and underwrite new business cases in a pragmatic manner and within Credit Policy & Financial Crime guidelines to support the aim of the Bank to be recognized as a Specialist Finance Provider by brokers and customers.
- Demonstrate a desire to underwrite cases by, where appropriate, suggesting alternative options on how a case may be acceptable as opposed to declining outright while still fully complying with Credit Policy and KYC governance. Where a decline decision is required, ensure that this is communicated in a clear, concise, and timely manner to maintain a positive relationship with the Broker / Customer.
- Compose financing rationales that ensure financing decisions are clearly structured and documented.
- Work cases in an efficient manner utilizing the processes and policies in place to contribute to the business meeting agreed Service Level Agreements both internally and externally.
- Work collaboratively with all functions and business areas to ensure excellent customer service.
- Be clear and articulate in telephone conversations and written communication with brokers to provide a clear rationale for the decision being conveyed or rationale for additional information being requested, to support the overall service proposition.
- Demonstrate a 'Can Do' attitude with Brokers and internal colleagues and manage interactions to support the Bank to deliver an outstanding level of service and be recognized externally for doing so.
- Follow the Training plan, forming part of Professional Development Plan (PDP), increasing skills and underwriting knowledge.
- Complete the training plan and obtain Level 1 mandate within 6-9 months of start date.
- Perform other duties commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training.
