About the Role

The University of Birmingham is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead its Data and Alumni Relations Office. As the Data Insights Director, you will play a critical role in driving the strategic use of data and insight to inform decision-making across the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a bold and impactful data and insight strategy that meets the strategic needs of the Data and Alumni Relations Office.
  • Manage and develop a team of professionals through setting ambitious, achievable objectives, supporting colleagues in the successful delivery of high-quality projects, and identifying opportunities for professional development.
  • Ensure a customer-centric approach across Data & Insight and Philanthropic Finance when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with Philanthropic Finance on the production and validation of financial processes and reporting.
  • Responsible for the operational performance and use of the CRM system, including the collection, storage, management, and processing of information.

Reporting, Insight, and Analysis

  • Supervise, support, and encourage the Insight and Reporting Analyst to co-design an efficient suite of Business Intelligence (BI) reports based on Data and Alumni Relations Office requirements.
  • Present actionable insights, strategic recommendations, and business intelligence to the Senior Leadership Team from analytical and reporting output.

Training, Documentation, and User Support

  • Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a Knowledge Hub populated with accessible documentation and training materials.
  • Provide expert technical user support on Data and Alumni Relations Office systems to all teams.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Development Services to ensure the Data and Alumni Relations Office collects, stores, manages, and processes information in a legally compliant way.
  • Keep abreast of changes to data protection regulation.

Requirements

  • Experienced in technical management and development of information systems and technology, including CRM.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex IT projects.
  • Excellent operational planning skills.
  • Fluency in SQL or similar database query language.
  • Strong understanding and experience of BI platforms.
  • Experience of leading a team, including performance management.
  • Excellent understanding of data protection, particularly in reference to GDPR.
