Portering Assistant Role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Portering Assistant to join our team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. As a Portering Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our hospital by providing excellent customer service and supporting the transportation of patients, staff, and equipment.

About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, where you will have the chance to develop your skills and experience in a supportive and inclusive team. As a Portering Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Transporting patients by bed or chair between wards and departments using various methods of transportation
  • Transporting the deceased to the mortuary
  • Responding to emergency situations
  • Responding to requests for medical gas
  • Responding to requests for specimen collection and transportation to the Labs
  • Responding to out-of-hours requests for clean linen
  • Responding to requests to move furniture and equipment
  • Delivering patient meal trolleys to wards and other food provisions
  • Supporting the Helpdesk by providing cover for absence
  • Cleaning equipment used in the provision of the service
Key Skills and Qualities

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualities:

  • Previous experience of dealing face-to-face with the general public
  • Previous experience of working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
  • Good standard of basic education with GCSE A-C or equivalent English and Maths
