Job Purpose and Accountabilities

The SEND Operations Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Essex County Council SEND Operations team in delivering statutory duties for SEN assessment, monitoring, and review.

  • Maintains a specified allocation of children and young people with existing Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring statutory processes are completed within timescales.
  • Coordinates and secures school placements for CYP at points of transition, liaising with internal and external partners as necessary.
  • Recognizes issues around individual CYP and alerts senior managers, recommending next steps.
  • Prepares and presents information relating to EHCPs for submission to decision-making panels and undertakes follow-up work.
  • Represents Essex SEND services as a frontline contact for parents/carers, CYP, schools, and partner agencies.
  • Liaises with other local authorities for CYP who have moved into or are leaving Essex, ensuring correct paperwork is received and actioned.
  • Maintains tracking systems for students at the point of phase transfer and provides support to SEND Operations Partners and Co-ordinators.
  • Prepares chronologies/summaries for individual CYP to support ECC's response to priority work.
The Experience You Will Bring

The successful candidate will have:

  • Education to RQF level 2 or equivalent by experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relating to the LA's statutory duty for CYP with SEND.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of working successfully as part of a busy team in a business support or administrative environment.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
