Job Summary

The College of William & Mary seeks a seasoned professional to serve as the Executive Director of Advancement for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and the Batten School of Coastal and Marine Sciences (BSCMS). This strategic leader will be responsible for driving all advancement activity to benefit VIMS and BSCMS, with a focus on securing significant gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive advancement strategy to support the mission and impact of VIMS and BSCMS.
  • Lead the VIMS Foundation and serve as the chief fundraiser for the organization.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including foundation boards, corporate partners, and highly engaged leadership volunteers.
  • Collaborate with the VIMS/Batten School Advancement Team to identify and pursue new opportunities for growth and sustainability.
  • Develop and execute creative individual and corporate foundation relations (CFR) focused strategies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Significant experience (typically 4-8 years) in increasingly more responsible roles in development/advancement.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and fluency in using persuasive language to promote visionary gift opportunities.
  • Advanced writing skills with demonstrated expertise in drafting and executing CFR focused strategies.
  • Significant organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple complex tasks and projects concurrently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • An advanced degree (preferably a Master's Degree) in a related field.
  • Experience working in the fields of marine science, STEM, ecology, conservation biology, or related academic disciplines in higher education.
  • Demonstrated performance as a strategist for significant gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Experience working with foundation boards and highly engaged leadership volunteers.
What We Offer

The College of William & Mary offers a competitive salary range of $130,000 - $188,000 commensurate with relevant experience. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including retirement, health insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
