We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team at Gist Limited. As a key member of our SHEQ function, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and assurance on health and safety, occupational health and well-being, and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with the General Manager to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and standards at our sites.
- Provide competent health and safety advice to site leadership teams and stakeholders.
- Facilitate the implementation of our SHEQ strategy and ensure alignment with organisational goals and objectives.
- Be the subject matter expert on health and safety matters, providing guidance and support to site teams and escalating issues as necessary.
- Review accident trends, hazard reporting data, and IMS dashboard information to identify corrective actions and emerging risks.
- Create site-specific safety action plans and undertake SHEQ management systems audits and inspections.
- Assume the role of lead incident investigator for Level 3 incidents and support site management in other investigations.
- Provide accurate reports on key issues and progress against our SHEQ strategy and site risk registers.
- Partner with engineering and transport teams to drive a standard and consistent approach to safety.
- Mentor and coach operational managers to ensure SHEQ compliance and improvement.
- Manage and support the launch and implementation of SHEQ team project initiatives.
- Oversee and manage applicable training requirements and emergency planning and arrangements.
- Be the subject matter expert on EcoOnline and provide support to site management teams.
- Monitor IMS module inspections and reviews and ensure corrective actions are raised and owned by leadership teams.
- Implement and share best practices and key learnings across locations to drive consistency and improvement in SHEQ performance.
- Facilitate and manage local insurance claims and act as the primary contact for external agencies.
- Oversee and create operational documentation to reflect work done and in line with what good looks like.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement that achieves industry best practice and Gist standards.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and minimum Grad member of IOSH (or equivalent).
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of SHEQ principles and practices.
- Proven experience in a health and safety management role within a medium or high-risk industry.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, operationally challenging environment.
- Knowledge of logistics/distribution sector and familiarity with materials handling equipment.
- Experience in accident and incident management and investigation skills.
- Self-starter and driven to deliver results with minimal day-to-day guidance.
- Ability to deliver within a busy and pressurised work environment.
- Institute of Environmental Assessment Certificate (or equivalent).
- Internal auditor experience.
- Facilities, building property, or engineering safety management knowledge.
- Knowledge and experience in ISO standards, including lead auditor (working towards).
- Chartered membership of IOSH (or working towards).
