Position Overview
The Dumfries and Galloway Council is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Social Work Assistant within the Justice Social Work sector. This position offers a competitive salary ranging from £29,000 to £32,000.
Available Positions:
- Permanent contract in the Stranraer/West of Region
- Fixed Term contract in the Stranraer/West of Region
- Fixed Term contract in the Dumfries/East of Region
Role Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will play a vital role in the Early Interventions team, focusing on enhancing community safety and improving outcomes for individuals who have committed offenses. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting social workers with their statutory obligations.
- Providing direct support to individuals under Community Payback Orders (CPOs).
- Managing cases and collaborating with various agencies.
- Leading initiatives such as Structured Deferred Sentences, Diversion from Prosecution, and Bail Supervision.
- Engaging in court-related duties as required.
Essential Skills:
Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with clients, colleagues, and external partners. Proficiency in writing is also critical, as the role involves preparing reports and correspondence.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member. A proactive approach to learning and adapting to evolving responsibilities is crucial.
Additional Requirements:
A valid driving license is mandatory for this position. Consideration will be given to applicants with disabilities that may affect their ability to hold a driving license, provided alternative transport arrangements can be made.
This role is classified as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, in accordance with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. Candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to receiving a formal employment offer.
For candidates who have resided outside the UK in the past five years, a police record check from the relevant authorities in those countries will be necessary in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check.
