The firm's Employment team is a rapidly expanding, market-leading group with a global perspective. Comprising over 25 legal professionals, the team serves a wide array of employer clients. They are recognized for their adept handling of investigations and senior staff departures, often addressing cases involving sensitive allegations. Additionally, the firm supports its extensive client base with major restructuring and redundancy initiatives, as well as providing representation in litigation before employment tribunals, the Employment Appeal Tribunal, and the High Court. The team collaborates closely with the firm's immigration division to assist with recruitment challenges.

As an Associate / Senior Associate within this team, while workloads may fluctuate, you can expect to dedicate approximately 80-85% of your time to contentious and advisory work, with 15-20% focused on transactional support. Typical responsibilities include:

Disputes and Investigations

  • Tribunal litigation (e.g., unfair dismissal, whistleblowing, discrimination).
  • High Court litigation (e.g., team movements and bonus disputes).
  • Conducting workplace investigations.
  • Collaborating with the dispute resolution team on various investigations.
  • Managing strike ballots and union-related activities.

Contentious Advisory

  • Senior exits and settlement agreements.
  • Addressing restrictive covenant breaches and planning team transitions.
  • Providing other contentious advice (e.g., grievances, disciplinary actions).

General Advisory

  • Change initiatives (e.g., redundancy and TUPE processes, both UK-focused and international).
  • Drafting contracts, bonus schemes, and employee handbooks.
  • Business immigration matters.
  • Offering ad hoc advice (e.g., gender pay gap reporting, holiday pay, furlough issues).

Training and Strategic Insights

Cross-Departmental and Transactional Support

  • Corporate: handling deals, executive exits, IPOs.
  • Commercial: advising on outsourcing and GDPR compliance.
  • Real Estate: addressing TUPE-related concerns.

To excel in this role, candidates should possess:
