Agricultural Soil Surveyor Position

The Role

ADAS, part of the RSK Group Ltd, is seeking a skilled Agricultural Soil Surveyor/Consultant to contribute to the team on a full-time, permanent basis.

The successful candidate will be involved in a range of projects across various business sectors, including cross-country pipelines and cables, infrastructure, residential, and commercial developments.

Projects will be located throughout the UK, sometimes in remote and challenging locations. The ideal candidate must be able to travel throughout the UK and stay away from home for short periods. They should also be comfortable working alone in an agricultural setting where livestock may be present.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct soil survey fieldwork and produce written reports for Agricultural Land Classification (ALC)
  • Soil Resource Assessment and other related projects for clients
  • Manage data to support technical reporting, planning applications, and EIA
  • Liaise with clients, landowners, contractors, statutory authorities, and third parties

Requirements:

  • Full driving license and own transport
  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Soil Science, or a related degree (physical geology, environmental scientist)
  • Relevant years' practical experience
  • Experience of soil surveying and knowledge of Agricultural Land Classification (ALC)
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to work outside in all weather
  • Capacity to develop skills with a view to registration with a professional body, if not already registered (e.g., The Institution of Agricultural Engineers or British Society Soil Science)
