Support Worker Opportunity

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to join our team at a Client School in York. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with a range of special educational needs on a 1:1 or small group basis.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN coordinators to implement and monitor individualized education plans.
  • Develop sensory, speech, language, and communication needs with the class teachers.
  • Provide physical support where necessary, including assistance with mobility, personal care, and feeding.
  • Implement positive behavior strategies and interventions to manage and support students' behavior.
Requirements:
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification or higher, such as an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
  • Have at least 6 months experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a care or school setting.
  • Be a strong and engaging communicator.
  • Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help young people overcome their barriers.
  • Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please note that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
