We are seeking a Unit Manager to join our team in the CCU Cardiac Unit, which comprises 10 high dependency beds and telemetry units treating patients with a range of cardiology conditions.
The successful candidate will be a committed and experienced registered nurse with a compassionate and caring nature, who will lead on the delivery of high-quality acute/chronic nursing care.
The ideal candidate will have recent and relevant post-registration experience, as well as experience of team management and budget management.
They will possess excellent communication and organization skills, be able to prioritize work using their own initiative, thrive under pressure, and respond to complex health problems and patient flow issues.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe Unit Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the nursing team and care support team are adequately resourced and organized to deliver excellent care.
They will ensure that the nursing team and care support team are adequately supported and developed to deliver excellent care with compassion.
The Unit Manager will lead and develop the nursing team and the department's administration and support teams by being a visible and strong role model, providing leadership and direction to the team, capitalizing on research and development opportunities, and providing clinical supervision and advice for staff and students.
They will ensure the productive operation of the department through the monitoring and maintenance of standards that create a safe, clean, and organized environment, and by using processes designed to increase the time nurses spend in therapeutic contact with patients.
The Unit Manager will safeguard people and promote equality in care and practice by recognizing, respecting, and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
They will be responsible for vacancy/talent management, ensuring all vacancies are recruited to in a timely manner and in line with the organization's recruitment and selection policy.
The Unit Manager will be responsible for workforce planning, ensuring the department has sustainable staffing structures at substantive spend, which may be achieved through different marketing solutions or different structural arrangements.
Person SpecificationQualifications & Education
- Appropriate NMC Registration
- Mentorship qualification
- Post-Registration Qualifications relevant to the role
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing
- Evidence of Education to Degree Level
- Successful completion of/will to work towards a leadership and development programme (equivalent to the Internal Band 6 Leadership and Development programme).
Desirable criteria
- Level 4 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent
Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
- Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery/medicine
- Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs
- Knowledge of ethical issues
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing a clinical area
- Knowledge of the PDPR Process
- Evidence of working at Band 7
- Experience of budgetary management
